Chartis Insurance Company China Limited (Chartis China, formerly AIG General Insurance Company China Limited) is a China registered wholly owned property & casualty subsidiary of Chartis, with branch offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong Province and the city of Shenzhen. With a 90-year history, Chartis is an international property-casualty insurance organization headquartered in New York.
Through its various operations, Chartis provides quality commercial and consumer insurance services throughout North America, Europe, Latin America, Africa, Japan, Korea, Australia, north Asia, south-east Asia, and mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan etc. The insurance services offered include Property, Marine, Casualty, and A&H coverage for both large and small companies and households.
Chartis’ culture of disciplined underwriting and product innovation has provided a long-standing competitive advantage since the first foreign insurance operation in China was established in Shanghai in 1992. Further growth resulted in the launch of the Guangzhou operations in 1995, followed by the opening of the Foshan sub-branch in 1999, and the Shenzhen branch in 1999. In 2004, all of the branch offices in China obtained licenses to sell property/casualty insurance products to local companies and consumers in accordance with China's WTO commitments. In 2006, the Company received approvals from the CIRC to expand its business into the province of Guangdong. The year of 2007 heralded an important milestone for the Company in China. In July, the CIRC approved the conversion of its branches in China into a wholly owned subsidiary. In July, 2008, the Company received approval to establish a branch in Beijing, which marks the first step in its geographic expansion across China following the incorporation in September 2007. On July 27, 2009, Chartis China launched a new brand and completed its effort of re-branding with new Chartis logo, brand line and etc. in October. Chartis China is currently the largest foreign property-casualty insurer in China.
With its long experience and comprehensive network, Chartis China is now well positioned to capitalize on new opportunities arising from the increasing liberalization of the Chinese Market.
